Welcome to Mimi's Rescue & Camp Emily!
Located in Sarasota, Florida, on Florida's West Coast, we provide all kinds of services for the rescue, treatments and adoptions of abandoned kittens and cats throughout Sarasota and Manatee Counties. As a 501 (c ) 3 Non-profit organization, all contributions are tax deductible and we greatly appreciate YOUR SUPPORT. We are devoted to saving the lives of kittens and cats and are dedicated to finding them quality homes. 100% of all donations go toward the care and feeding of the animals we have available. This includes travel destinations for rescue and trapping, complete medical care, testing, treatments and consultation with some of the area's top veterinary services, on-going and individualized care for infants, including bottle feeding and attentive daily care for animals we have available. Once our kittens reach adoption age, we provide spay and neutering, and owners receive their micro-chip tracking information. All our cats and kittens are fully vaccinated to the upper respiratory series as part of their adoption terms
We offer many breeds and can also help you locate a particular breed through our vast network of rescue services. Our kittens are healthy, loving animals and we do encourage the adoption of two or more kittens at the same time.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT ONYCHECTOMY - DECLAWING
Our rescue does not allow declawing. Most people do not understand what declawing does to these animals. Unfortunately, what is natural behavior for a cat is often considered misbehavior by humans. Declawing by any name, is an extreme measure in which the entire last part of the toes are amputated. It is the equivalent of cutting off a person's finger at the last joint. It uses general anesthesia for this surgery which is a risk of disability or death to these animals, and since the nerves, tendons and muscles are severed along with the joints, the recovery from declawing can be painful and lengthy. In addition there can be physical an psychological effects including personality change, and they may become extremely timid or unusually aggressive.
There are many alternatives to declawing. Training a cat to use a scratching post is one way, and having a variety of posts in the house before the cat arrives is important. Using posts made from sisal, hemp, corrugated cardboard or carpet, or even a combination of materials is very helpful. Other helpful methods include a weekly nail trimming. This helps eliminate the amount of husk removal scratching that a cat engages in. The tip of the claw should be removed along with any loose husk covering the fresh, sharper claw underneath. After clipping weekly, the cat will have less desire to remove the husks of dead claws by scratching. Your veterinarian can show you how to properly trim nails.
There are also nail caps that reduce the need for frequent trimming of the nails. A non-toxic adhesive is used to attach a plastic cap over each claw. These will last up to six weeks. See a veterinary technician or groomer to find out how to attach these nail caps if you need help. There are other ways to help. You can request a brochure from us published by the The Association of Veterinarians for Animal Rights by filling out our inquiry form on this site. There are many animals that have already been declawed and some may be available to us. Contact us for further information.
RESCUES & TRAPPING
We can help you too. If you see cats and kittens who may be abandoned, feral or just lost, please call us at 941-922-1500 to discuss alternatives to help keep these animals from being run over or hurt. We are a no-kill rescue and work toward helping these animals find useful purposes in life.
Today our area is faced with an over population of kittens and cats who are abandoned or accidentally left to run free. in many cases too, families are faced with today's difficult economy and loving pets are being abandoned. Lively Kittens can escape without an owner's awareness. It is difficult for young kittens to survive, lost without their mother and the survival instincts they need. We provide complete search, rescue and trapping services. WE CAN HELP!
Many of the young abandoned kittens we find need special care including first being checked by our local veterinary services. We work at eliminating all parasites, then individually bottle feed them, if needed, until they are able to handle solid foods. Each animal is given only premium food and we increase their fluid intake with special nutrients added to spring water to help them grow strong and healthy.

FOSTERING
We currently have a very large number of kittens to maintain. We invite qualified individuals to help us in fostering these young kittens until they reach the age when adoptions can be made. Some the kittens have wonderfully sweet moms with them. We encourage anyone who may be interested to contact us, as the need for "foster parents" is much needed. Your dedication and love is critical, and in return, you receive the gift of knowing that a lost animal is being brought back to health, so that a loving family will receive the gift of "unconditional" love from our special "babies."
ADOPTION
There is no greater feeling than the "unconditional love" these kittens can provide to family members. We encourage you to consider the adoption of two or more animals. Kittens are curious and crave constant stimulation. When a kitten becomes bored or left alone, it will tend to do things like climbing drapes, chewing on plants or electrical cords, and other mischievous things. It is not to say kittens who live with other kittens will not do these things, but if they have another kitten to play with, it is less likely they will be into as much trouble. For owners, you too will enjoy the companionship of having two or more playful animals that provide so much fun and enjoyment Many of our kittens are paired off with two or more littermates and we find these kittens to be healthier and happier as they grow into adulthood. Consequently, with happier, well adjusted kittens their owners are much happier too.

BEHAVIOR CONSULTATION
Kittens and cats can become adjusted to their environments, and sometimes with a mind of their own. Although not common, a Cat may develop behavioral problems, and develop bad habits like biting, scratching furniture, etc. We can discuss these issues with you and consult you on the best solutions to your cat's individual problem. Please be sure to contact us for an appointment.
PET SITTING
Unlike dogs, cat's are more capable of handling things for themselves. With a clean litter box, plenty of food and water, a lighted room and comfortable bed, a cat can be alone for a couple of days by themselves. While they will miss your everyday presence, you're sure to get a loving greeting when you return.
When you plan to be away from home for a longer period, we offer complete Pet Sitting services. For more information, please contact us at (941) 922-1500.
